Print is Dead?

January 27, 2009

In the rise of all things revolving around web media and interactive design, I have again, revisited the beauty of print. I am working on two projects right now that demand research and development for page layout and design.

I am working with Nick Turner on the Sequoyah Review project. We are drafting comps right now on the look and page design of the review. The review contains literary and art submissions and is the review of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

I am working with Michael Mahaffey on the new project that also involves page design and layout. I spent a lot of time admiring the book Printed Matter/Drukwerk. Works include Karel Martens: work in progress, Karel Martens: 41 years of work, Karel Martens: what design means for me, Martens’ capture of the margin, and Karel Martens: meticulous and personal. It is always interesting to read and review or even get the chance to see someones process and how they approach there work. I learned a lot with this book. Here are some pages that I found quite beautiful. It is difficult to see the small layouts in each page, but if you can it’s pretties for the eye.

If print is dead…I don’t know it. I’ll enjoy it as long as I can.
