BIN
February 16, 2009
My awesome professor, Jessica Westbrook, had a collaborative exhibition at AVA here in Chattanooga Tennessee. The work was of many different collaborative groups that work here in the US. Some of these include Gorilla Girls, Paintallica, Graffiti Research Lab, Mess Hall and many others. I found this talk so inspirational. For a long time I have had a desire to work in the collaborative way and Jessica sure did inspire. Basically, many of these groups mailed in their work, with specific instructions on how to install. Jessica and her team then followed those directions to complete a show comprised of many collaborative groups. The idea is that art can come out of these connections made and the purpose that is set can be fulfilled whether you are involved directly in the exhibition or not. This was a huge undertaking for her, which was done in her own time, which I also found inspirational. Projects that we are passionate about shouldn’t go undone or unnoticed.
BIN was a success and gave me the beginning seed of thought that lead to collaboration with Michael for our senior show.
